How to create a birthday email scenario?

The birthday email is an automated communication that helps strengthen engagement with your contacts.

(The tutorial video is not yet available in English. If you wish, you can refer to the French version of this article to watch the tutorial video)

1. Create a dynamic list in Arenametrix

Before creating the automation scenario in Brevo, you first need to create a dynamic list in Arenametrix.

To do this, go to the Contacts tab. Then select the Date of birth criterion and choose In 0 day(s). This filter automatically includes contacts whose birthday falls on the current day.

Once the filters are defined, click Create a list.

In the creation window, make sure to enter a name for the list (for example Birthday_D-0) and select the Dynamic list type. Confirm by clicking Create.

This list will automatically update every day based on the birth dates of your contacts.

Once created, the list will automatically synchronize with Brevo.

2. Create the scenario in Brevo

From Brevo, go to the Automations module (1), then click Create an automation (2).

Next, select Create from scratch to build a custom scenario.

Make sure to give your scenario a clear name, for example Birthday_D-0 (1).
Then, in the Triggers tab (2), select Added to list (3), and drag this block to the right.

Then choose the dynamic list previously created in Arenametrix (e.g. Birthday_D-0), and click Save.

Now go to the Actions tab (1). In the Messaging section, drag the Send an email action (2) under the trigger.

In the action settings, click Add a message (1), then choose Create a new message (2) or select an existing email.

You can easily find a previously created birthday template by using the search bar (e.g. birthday). Once the email is selected or created, click Save.

After selecting the email template, remember to review and adjust the message settings before saving it.

Make sure to specify:

  • the email subject, which should be clear, personalized and engaging,

  • the preview text, visible in the inbox,

  • the sender, to ensure consistent identification of your organization.

In the additional settings, you can also refine the sending conditions, for example by scheduling the message to be sent at the optimal time.

3. Test and activate your scenario

Your scenario is now ready. Before activating it, we recommend clicking Test to ensure the journey works correctly. Once the test is validated, click Activate automation.

From that moment on, every new contact added to the Birthday D-Day list will automatically receive your birthday email.
